GILBERT ISBIN

"GILBERT ISBIN PLAYS NICK DRAKE"

Traurige Tropen

This album is a homage to guitarist Nick Drake, the author of a few albums released in the early seventies. Surrounded by an aura of "contracultural artist", he ended up by committing suicide on November, 1974, at age 26. In his life, his peculiar music was not very well received. Yet as time went by, it was re-discovered by numerous musicians who felt at once spiritually connected with it, and to whom it has been a decissive artistic influence in the evolution of their careers. The imagination perceived in Nick Drake's music and the amount of his own being that Nick poured into all his compositions are the elements that make it so special. Gilbert Isbin, representing the feeling of many guitarists, has adapted a selection of pieces by Drake to his own style, as a homage and mutual collaboration throughout time and space.
