LISA GERRARD & PIETER BOURKE

"DUALITY"

Sonifolk/Lyricon

In 1997, Lisa Gerrard (Dead Can Dance) invited Pieter Bourke (Soma) to her home studio. She needed some percussion parts for several new pieces that she was composing for a new solo album. After recording a couple of themes, they decided that a complete collaboration between them for a different album also would be a good idea. Its title is Duality. Bourke had worked with Gerrard before, in her first solo album (The Mirror Pool), in a Dead Can Dance tour and in their last CD, Spiritchaser. So they know each other well and the work was easy. The music, in fact, is nearer to Dead Can Dance than to Soma: it is organic, ethnic, classic and also contemporary. The 10 pieces feature the very special voice of Lisa Gerrard (she speaks English only in the seventh) and dark, slow instrumentation. They use percussion, keyboards and samplers. Some passages are really impressive.
