THE HARP CONSORT

"CAROLAN'S HARP"

Deutsche Harmonia Mundi / BMG

This album contains twenty-five pieces by Irish harpist and poet Turlough O'Carolan (1670-1738), considered by many as the initiator of traditional Irish music in the form that it has today. Together with the performing virtuosity of the Harp Consort, the brilliant creativity of O'Carolan is truly remarkable. Throughout the 78 minutes that the CD lasts, we can hear themes with medieval reminiscences, others of a clear baroque classical structure, and some with the unmistakable Celtic style as we know it today.
