ASIABEAT AND FRIENDS

"DRUMUSIQUE"

Domo Records

The band of a Malaysian conception Asiabeat attacks once again. After their Monsoon, which already uncovered what this particular band of jazz-fusion is capable of doing, Drumusique surprises us once again with its world music of the best kind. With Asiabeat the Eastern and the Western cultures go hand in hand. And it has been hard enough to achieve, because the band has been working in their country for fifteen years already and up to now we knew nothing about them. With Asiabeat, Asian music shines and talks to us clearly: the East has a lot to say and is going to do so soon enough. In Drumusique, Asiabeat (accompanied by other friends) present us with a live recording from the concert they recorded on July 14, 1991, at the Conference Hall in Singapore, plus a couple of studio themes. Like its name hints, this is an eminently percussive work, 12 tracks of a different make that illustrate numerous influences. Lewis Pragasam, whose country of origin is Malaysia, has surrounded himself with a team of splendid musicians, who take the sometimes franctic rhythm of their instruments to unimaginable heights. The popularity enjoyed by Asiabeat in the Eastern countries, especially in Japan, is about to move to our lands. So we hope, at least.
