MAIRE BRENNAN

"MISTY EYED ADVENTURES"

RCA/BMG Records

The singer of the famous Irish band Clannad presents us her new solo record. Produced by Calum Malcom and Donald Lunny, the album shows a new trend not easily discernible in Clannad's production. The artist, in her independence, has tried to merge varied sensations from African sounds, sounds from India and sounds from Eastern Europe, giving a special importance to the rhythms. These are eleven themes, among which probably "A Place Among the Stones" is the most remarkable one, if only because it features Davy Spillane as well as because of its similarity with respect to the sonic textures to the latest works by Clannad. In many cases, the lyrics of the songs have been developed by Maire Brennan herself, although pieces by other artists are also included (like for instance "Big Yellow Taxi", by Joni Mitchell) and even traditional themes ("Élric Suas a Stórin"). For Maire, this album has been yet another opportunity to experiment outside the nucleus of her band. Her first solo album, "Maire", already showed remarkable differences, which leads us to think that the artist has many ideas of her own to explore. The people of The Blue Nile band have worked with her, as well as different members of her large family, thus attaining to produce a magnificent record.
