CONNIE DOVER

"THE WISHING WELL"

Olarin Musiikki Oy / Taylor Park Music / Sonifolk / Arpafolk

After a first solo work that we could term a discovery, Connie Dover gives us a new gift of a magnificent record of Celtic music. With a voice that rivals the beauty of the singer, with musicians who are the best of the Irish and the Scottish school, what could possibly fail? Luckily, not the songs. Eleven themes of a very varied make, in English, Irish and Latin, traditional lyrics or lyrics that have been specially written for the occasion, and music composed by the artist herself or extracted from the classical repertoire. Perhaps one of the reasons why this record will surely succeed is the production, undertaken by the very well known Phil Cunningham, who also participates playing some of the instruments. The other musicians are not left behind: Mánus Lunny intervenes with the guitar and the buzuki, Christy O'Leary with the Irish bagpipe, Aly Bain with the violin, Brian McNeill with the guitar, mandolin and violin, Neil Hay in the bass without frets, and last but not least James MacKintosh at the drums. A whole guarantee of a quality performance. All that, however, is in great part eclipsed by the extraordinary voice of Connie Dover, this American musician that is attracted to the Celtic sound rather than to any other sound in the music of her own country. In short, a CD, recorded in Edinburgh, that confirms the positive evolution of this woman.
