VANGELIS

The Greek composer Evangelos (Vangelis) Papathanassiou, born in 1943, began his career as a rock musician in the sixties, achieving a great success in his country, and later all over the world with his band Aphrodite's Child. In the early 1970s, he became a pioneer of electronic music, starting then his solo career. An author of several movie soundtracks, he achieved his greatest success in this field in 1982 when he was awarded the Oscar to the best soundtrack for Chariots of Fire. He has collaborated with several musicians, among them Jon Anderson, Neuronium and Demis Roussos.
