Shafqat Ali Khan is a virtuoso vocalist whose debut album for Hearts of Space/World Class Records reflects his skills, inherited from an ancient musical lineage back to the sixteenth century. Trained as a classical singer in the purest forms of the vocal arts from his homeland, the Punjab (India), in this CD the artist presents with unparalelled mastery a repertoire of traditional poetic love songs, originated in the 19th. century, knows as ghazals, together with raga-based melodies, in a wonderful mix of percussion, synths and electro-acoustic guitars, thus entering what can be considered the World Music of the 21st. century.
