"CALANAIS"

Blue Moon / Europa CB

The celebration of the tenth anniversary of the creation of the cultural center An Lanntair in 1985 was the occasion for the commission of a series of themes to renowned artists in the folk environments, in association with several organisations and institutions. The result is this album that is dedicated to the stones of Callanish, a historical site on Lewis island. It actually is an ancient pre-historical monument of 5000 years of antiquity, one of the most frequently visited ones all over the world. The album contains 11 themes by such well known musicians as Phil Cunningham, Sileas, Dougie Maclean and others. The origin of these musicians is diverse, from jazz to Celtic trends, to several folk paths, yet in spite of all that, the album maintains a coherent structure very pleasant to listen to. So as to emphasize this impression, Calanais opens and closes with the texts of two local poets, Ian Stephen and Derick Thomson.
