NÓIRÍN NÍ RIAIN

"CELTIC SOUL"

Earth Music Productions / Living Music Records

The wealth in the Celtic songbook does not seem to have any limits. And not only with respect to the amount of traditional compositions, but also with respect to their musical quality and the richness of their contents. To illustrate this once again, Nóirín Ní Riain offers us a careful selection of ten themes in which she presents us the best of herself as a singer, as well as two Hindi spiritual songs that provide the perfect counterpoint to an album that transpires sensitivity from all its pores. For the occasion, Nóirín has been accompanied by the Paul Winter Consort and other friends, with such people as Paul Winter himself at the soprano saxo, Glen Velez at the drums, Eugene Friesen at the cello, Paul Halley at the keyboards or Russ Landau at the bass and also keyboards. The CD is accompanied with the lyrics of the songs (in Gaelic, Hindi and English), as well as with small explanatory introductions that contribute to placing the character of each theme. In a few words, this is a very interesting work that states the fact that the crystaline voice of Nóirín's relies on two important pillars: Tradition and lyric virtuosity. Ingredients that place her at the top of any select group of Celtic performers.
